Author Journey: May 26, 2023 - Piecing Things Together

Welcome to the scenic route! As I close out my week of posts, I'm putting the finishing touches together on a quilting/sewing project. I've got the word prompt ready for you, though. And I haven't forgotten about Outh'n Durr. Keep reading...

Author Journey: Outh'n's Status

I've paused in the publishing process. This is my youngest daughter's senior year and getting all those ducks in row is work. It's not difficult, as such, but it's certainly tedious, meticulous work that takes time and attention to detail.

My plan is to have Outh'n's story out by mid-June, but it's not set in stone. I can't do that to myself. I've done it before and it isn't pretty. But know that soon does mean soon. Keep reading the blog to stay posted on the day it goes live.

Writer's Life: Piecing Things Together

First, yes. It is my youngest's senior year. After homeschooling my three since 1999, I can finally say I'm done. At least for a little while. If my own decide to homeschool their kids, I wouldn't mind helping out. But at least as far as records and paperwork are concerned, I'm done. Hooray! We made it!

Second, one of my cousins has a daughter who's getting married. She's such a sweet young lady and was there for my girls during a difficult portion of their growing up years. I wanted to do something really nice for her and her husband-to-be. So I'm crafting some quilted placemats and coasters. I'll sew a couple of napkins and a small tablecloth for her, too. Quilting really makes me happy. You have an idea of what the finished product will look like, but you never truly know until it's done. I love it! It requires a bit of faith to keep going til the end.

Third, Spartacus is doing alright. He seems to have some issues with irritated skin above his eyes, so I'm going to treat that today. Otherwise, he's fat and happy, and still playful.

Just Keep Writing: Friday Fascicles

If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.

Rules:

  1. You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
  2. Please keep the material you write clean (ie. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
  3. Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.

Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.

What do you think? Can you craft something from these three words? Let me know in the comments below whether you found this prompt helpful or not. I appreciate constructive feedback.

Thanks so much for spending a portion of your valuable time here on the scenic route. Your support and encouragement is such a help to me! I hope I was able to help and encourage you today, too.

Next week, I'll have new word prompts for you. I hope to have a solid update on The Tale of Outh'n Durr for you, too.

Until next time,
