Book Notes: November 30, 2022 - Suspenseful Romance

Welcome back, Readers! I'm happy you chose to visit today. I've got a couple of suspense romance book reviews to share with you. Both are labeled as inspirational, but the faith element is pretty light. They are clean reads, though.

I've also got another writing prompt which I hope will spark your creative spirit.

Book Review: Target for Terror by Laura Scott

Target For Terror (Security Specialists Inc. #1)Target For Terror by L.A. Iding

Oh. My. Gosh. #Facepalm

I hate giving 1 star reviews. In this case, I had no choice. I usually enjoy inspirational suspense romance books. I'm sad to say I laughed my way through most of this book. If it was edited by a person promoting themselves as a pro, I'd recommend the author call the Better Business Bureau. Between the irrational behavior and choices of the characters, the plotholes, the sentence fragments, this book presented more as a comic tragedy than anything else. As for the faith element, it was there but barely. I've read other suspense romance books by this author and enjoyed them but this one was just awful. I'm not sure what happened, but I can't recommend this book to anyone.

I feel like I should stress how very badly done this book was. It should never have been released in this state. I also feel like this author has improved by leaps and bounds since writing this book. Or possibly, it's that this author's editor retired, leaving her without an editor and with a looming deadline. I don't really know. But please don't judge her other books by this one. She's a really good author.

But when you have something happen like this (Hands.) in the middle of a paragraph, that's gonna pull you right out of the story and give you about 30 minutes of gleeful fun. I know because I was reading this book aloud to my husband when we were traveling to visit with family earlier this year.

I just wanted to be sure you guys knew this author does have some awesome work out there. This book just isn't one of them.

Book Review: Ford (The Montana Marshalls, #3) by Susan May Warren

Ford (The Montana Marshalls, #3)Ford by Susan May Warren

Another Fantastic Story

Susan May Warren has definitely become a favorite author. This book just made me want to keep reading more and more. If you don't like loose ends, then give this series a pass. But if you enjoy a rich tale with charming characters and page-turning plot, then this series could be perfect for you.
There are a couple issues I have with the author's style. I really don't like the multitude of incomplete sentences. For me, that makes for choppy reading. But the stories themselves are riveting. I will continue reading work by this author for that reason, as well as these books being clean and inspirational in unexpectedly awesome ways.

I love this series. She charges the same for her ebooks as I'd expect to pay for a hardcopy book, but it's worth it if these sorts of stories are your thing. It's also why I haven't read the whole series yet. I'll eventually get to read them, but I have to take it slow because the cost doesn't fit my budget well.

Just Keep Writing: Wednesday Whimsy

If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.

Rules:

  1. You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
  2. Please keep the material you write clean (ie. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
  3. Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.

Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.

For those participating in NaNoWriMo, today's the last day to get those words in. I wish you well in your writing.

Come back tomorrow for another word prompt, even though Nano will be done today. Join me as I seek to keep writing every day.

Until next time...
