Book Notes: April 20, 2022 - Clean Suspense Romance

Welcome back! I hope you find something interesting in today's post. I must confess to loving the suspense romance genre. I prefer to read clean, Christian-focused suspense romance. It's pretty hard to believe in a character whose role is that of protector when they are so focused on their attraction to the person they are protecting that passion overrides safety measures. If a person truly finds another attractive enough to pursue a relationship with them, then wouldn't they be totally focused on making sure that a relationship was possible in the future without the heavy weight of someone trying to kill their client?  If they aren't, I find it hard to believe the love between the characters is a true type of love. So I really enjoy the clean romances that show a couple growing closer over time, as well as having them focused on solving the problems before attempting to allow their minds to be distracted. OK. Enough ranting. On with the reviews...

Fast-Paced Adventure

This story never stopped. Page after page of fast-paced adventure kept us reading and not wanting to put it down. My husband and I read it together and we both enjoyed it. We agreed it was 4.5 stars because of a couple places of odd wording and some repetition...thank you Hot Fuzz... It's a clean read, but there are some details described which may disturb some readers. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean, fast-paced adventure with a healthy dose of romance on the side.

Good Suspense Story

Excellent twists and turns in this suspense story. I initially thought it was an inspirational suspense romance book, but having finished it, I'd say it was straightforward suspense with a dash of inspirational themes and a "hint-of-hint-of" romance, as my daughters might jokingly state. The story was good until the last chapter which I felt kinda dragged out a few things but never really resolved much besides one thing. It could've been stated in a paragraph or two at the end of the previous chapter. I'd recommend this book to anyone wanting to read an interesting, clean suspense novel.

In both books, God is mentioned but but I didn't find Lisa Phillips's book to be of the inspirational variety. For me, a book qualifies as inspirational if it's leading people to a deeper understanding of who God is and how he works in our lives for good, most of the time, in ways we'd never imagine until after the work is completed. But both of these were good books.

One funny thing came up in the first book. There was a whole bunch of mentions of 'the greater good.' Fans of the movie Hot Fuzz will understand why. But while it's funny, it's got to be labeled as dark humor since a lot goes on with such a motive. Common folk like me who are just trying to live our lives never see much of what goes on that the media won't even touch. It is what it is.

I wasn't able to get a post in last Friday. I hope to remedy that this week and get an update on my work progress out there. We'll see how that goes and take things one day at a time.

I do hope you found a book you might add to your TBR list. If you do, or if you've read these, why not share what you think in the comments below?

Until next time...
