Book Notes: April 19, 2023 - Lynn Shannon

Welcome to another stroll along the scenic route! I've got a few things to share with you today. The Triumph Over Adversity series by Lynn Shannon has been really awesome so far. Reviews from three of those books follow, as well as the usual word prompt. I hope you'll see something you'll want to add to your TBR list, or that the word prompt will spark your creativity. Let's go!

Excellent! It Kept Me Guessing

Lynn Shannon is quickly becoming a new favorite author. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and have the last book in her previous series pre-ordered. If you're looking for a good, solid romantic suspense book and you also enjoy inspirational themes, check this one out. I loved Connor and the heroine's rescue cat. I enjoy reading about working pets. And the interaction between the hero and heroine was nice. To see their love bloom from a friendship was a very nice touch.

Kept Me Wondering and Turning Pages

Lynn Shannon just keeps the winners coming. I love her style and the action is always epic. In this book, I loved both the MC's and found Papa Joe quite relatable. The spiritual growth of the heroine was very well written. I like how the perspective on abandonment was tackled. This is a clean read but it is suspense and contains some intense scenes. If that bothers you, then try a different author. But if you enjoy a good suspense romance story with a healthy dose of inspiration, then this might be a good choice for you.

Another Enjoyable Adventure

I didn't want to put this book down. Lynn Shannon has written another awesome story with a couple of MCs I can and did root for. The twists were interesting.

A couple things weren't really as surprising as they could've been. There were also a couple of typos, but no major faux pas marred my enjoyment.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series. If you enjoy inspirational, suspense, romance, then I'll recommend this book to you.

If you are looking for a writer who's mastered the art of creating a completely new twist on an old trope, Lynn Shannon may not be the author for you. But if you're looking for a clean story, a plot that can hold your interest, and characters who (while flawed) are people you can admire and root for, then do give Lynn Shannon a try. I think one thing which sets her up nicely to write these types of books is her background in law. This is one series I've been keeping up with fairly well. I usually manage to pick up the newest installment when it comes out. Having said that, I don't have the newest book yet, but I'll be getting it soon.

Just Keep Writing: Wednesday Whimsy

If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.

Rules:

  1. You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
  2. Please keep the material you write clean (ie. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
  3. Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.

Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.

This set of words could produce an interesting batch of creativity. What do you think?

I'm so happy you took some of your valuable time and spent it on the scenic route. Sometimes, slowing down and giving yourself time to breathe can help stoke the fires of creativity. Maybe today's prompt helped, too.

What did you think about the reviews? Have you read these books or others by this author? Let me and other readers know in the comments below.

I hope you'll come back tomorrow for another word prompt. See you soon!

Until next time,
