Book Notes: December 28, 2022 - Nonfiction Christian Living Books

Welcome back, Readers! I'm so happy to have you here. I've got a couple book reviews for you in the nonfiction realm. I figured I'd finish the year out strong with these Christian men who knew what it meant to study God's Word and handle it accurately. They weren't interested in making it sound more palatable to the human ear. They were after the truth, and sometimes the truth is painful. It just is what it is.

Be sure to keep reading so you don't miss the writing prompt I've added at the end. Happy creating!

Book Review: Can I Be Sure I'm Saved? by R.C. Sproul

Can I Be Sure I'm Saved? (Crucial Questions, #7)Can I Be Sure I'm Saved? by R.C. Sproul
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent Study on Assurance of Salvation

I enjoyed this succinct and thorough study on the Assurance of Salvation by RC Sproul. I learned a few things and gained some deeper insight into others. If you're looking for books to help you study the Christian faith, this would be a good one to add to your list.

This review is super short because the book is a pamphlet. There are a few chapters which are laid out clearly. It's an excellent short read and I highly recommend it if you have questions about the Christian faith.

Book Review: Prevailing Prayer by Dwight L. Moody

Prevailing Prayer (Updated, Annotated): A Thorough Study on the Subject of PrayerPrevailing Prayer (Updated, Annotated): A Thorough Study on the Subject of Prayer by Dwight L. Moody
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An Excellent Study Book

I loved this study concerning prayer. The sections were presented in a logical order. There's a poem before each new chapter and I loved that, too. Trying to find a book of classical Christian poetry is kinda tough these days and that breaks my heart. I'm so glad Moody added them to his book. If you're looking for a thorough study on prayer, this is a great option.

I taught a class on prayer for the women's conference we hosted at our church last month. This is one of the books I read to help me learn more about my topic. I'm skeptical of more modern authors because so many of them are fudging the truths of the message we read in scripture.

My God doesn't change. And neither His Word, nor the truths contained in the Bible change. Humans go through changes, but humankind doesn't change much, where basics are concerned, either. You'll see the truth of that if you study history. Well, history that hasn't been altered. *shrugs* It is what it is. Some truths are painful.

Just Keep Writing: Wednesday Whimsy

If this is your first time participating in this kind of writing exercise, you're in for a treat. If you've done this with me before, just keep scrolling for the prompt.

Rules:

  1. You can use any/all of the words and/or the photo in the prompt below to create a unique written work. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, even lyrics are acceptable.
  2. Please keep the material you write clean (ie. nothing R-rated or worse) if you wish to share the link to your work here, as well as if you link back to my site. I strive to keep my site free of such things. My readers know and expect this. I respect your right to write whatever you feel you need to write. And you're free to use my prompts. But if your material is graphic, I'd rather not view it, and most of my readers will not wish to.
  3. Have fun! This type of exercise is perfect for growing in the writing craft, or for helping through a rough patch in your current WIP. If you're looking to push your author limits and you normally write in nonfiction prose, try a whimsical collection of lyrics. If you normally write poems about real life events, try your hand at a fanfic. Give yourself some room to explore.

Don't forget to leave a link to your creation (unless you're writing graphic material) so my readers and I can check out your work. I'd appreciate a link back to this post to help me reach more readers, but it's not required.
